Every Document You Need for a NYC CCW (and How to Get Them Right)
Documents are where NYC concealed carry applications go wrong most often. Here's the full list with the details that matter.
Character references
You need four notarized character references. Two may be family members; the other two must be unrelated to you and not in law enforcement. All four must be lawful US residents. Each reference letter must be notarized — plan time for that.
Cohabitant affidavit
Every person 18 or older living in your home needs a notarized affidavit of cohabitant — spouse, domestic partner, roommates, adult children. Miss one and your packet is incomplete.
Social media list
The CCIA requires a list of all current and former social media accounts for the past three years. Be thorough and honest; gaps and omissions raise questions during the investigation.
Safe storage photos
You must provide two color photos of your actual gun safe — one with the door open and one with the door closed, with the whole safe visible. Stock images won't do.
ID and proof of residence
A valid driver license, non-driver ID, or passport, plus proof you live in (or do business in) NYC.
Proof of training
Documentation of your completed 16 + 2 hour CCIA course.
Get it assembled correctly
Each item has a format the License Division expects. See how Gun License NYC assembles and QAs your packet before it's ever filed — or check your eligibility to begin.
